bonjour corinne,
is the name of seb's friend 'woody woodpecker'? i thought you told me you had quit smoking already? well, this time, just wear a nicotine patch (if you want too, it helps the craving subside), but don't smoke while wearing it. you can give yourself nicotinic poisoning and a possible heart attack (this is true and you know my medical background.) drink lots of water to help flush the excess nicotine from your system. don't hang around smokers, quitting smoking is like quitting drinking or drugs. you have to change people, places and things when you get sober so you have to do the same when you quit smoking. it is a drug too. cajun has 24 years of sobriety and quit smoking in 1994. and he did it one day at a time. expect to gain a few pounds, your body was underweight anyway, that was normal. your taste buds come back, your lungs will clear out with some coughing. but the air will smell better, you will smell better, your clothes and house will smell better. and you will live longer. and be my friend for a long time little sister. take care and don't smoke any longer. s.v.p.

Hello Bill,
Oh yes, I remember, I did quit for a almost 6 weeks.
But when I had to deal with my serious health issue, I just start again motto "If I'm going to die, let me have my last!" Stupid, isn't it !?
and I since I completely recover but always found "excuses".
It makes me so Angry to see how strong addicted I am and hungry too you're right... therefore I do not really want to get the patch (It is just another way to let the drug win : It's becoming a personal war...). As I never smoked inside, it doesn't make any difference but I should soon be an "Athlete" as each time the urge come I drive to the YMCA...
Congratulation on your GrandSON. I'm sure you're going to be again a very Proud Grandpa.

bonjour corinne,
exercise is good, but drinking water does more to help flush the nicotine out. and this reduces the craving of the drug. and time will cure the rest. trust me, you will hate the smell of them soon with so much disgust, you will wonder why you ever smoked. my mother told me to quit when she found out she had terminal lung cancer. i finally kept my promise 4 years after she died. and i know what you have been through and your struggles. but you must learn to deal with the stress in other ways - drug free. bon courage mon ami.

I'm still not smoking (very proud of myself).

hi corinne,
you don't have to send me one corinne. i have been smoke free for many years. i'm sure it tastes like an orange flavored stick. i can get the same taste from a ice cream pop. besides, if you send it in an evelope, it will most likely get stuck in the automation equipment and never arrive. remember, i used to work on those machines in the mail processing center (GMF) here in tampa. by the time they come you really will not need them, the cravings should subside. just drink lots of water as i said and eat some fruit, do your exercises, and smell the fresh air of the pine trees. that should be incentive enough to stay smoke free. and think of the consequences of smoking - lung cancer, COPD, second hand smoke to your family and others. it is no wonder my dying mother told me to quit. she was so wise and i was a fool not to listen until 4 years later, until i finally quit. thanks mom. i'm finally weaned.
later gator,

Hello Bill,
Just kidding about the unwelcoming post you send me yesterday.
I quit smoking (11th days - I can't believe it!) but sadly, still, badly craving....
Has anyone any positive/helpful tips to get over it ?
Thanks for sharing
Corinne
Well, if it is getting TOO HARD you can always try this stuff. "snus"
Far more cheaper than a nicotine tape from the farmacy and much
more hygienic. It´s illegal to import it to Europan Union but Sweden has an exception for production and use but for the rest of the world
it should most probably be ok
I´m not promoting it - just if things getting TOO HARD and by the way
reading the info at the link will keep you away from smooking a few hours as they have a lot of info.
Further, smoke from cigarets is not good for your stamps -the colour changes and they start to smell - Just think about THAT!!!

Thank you El Gringo for your reply.
You'll be surprised but I always kept my home smoke free : never smoke inside, nor allow my guests to do so. (I have kids, would never harm them in this way) and can stand the cold tabac smell on top.
So my stamps are save and smell/smoke free.
Thank you for you link, I'll take a look on these info. for sure.
You make me curious illegal to import in Europe ? Isn't Sweden a part of it since 1995 without adopting the Euro ?

Well Corinne - you are quite right about the European Union but Sweden happens to be excluded for "snus" and for some other things as well as "tradition is tradition" or if you bend things too much it will brake....

I just took time to watch this short video, that let me perplex
My first impression has been : Is it a Joke ? but it is not really funny.
So I google it... No Joke, and well distributed. apparently available to the States.
After more than 2 weeks, I start to believe that I won the first battle over this addiction and feel already better.
Have a great day,
Corinne
hi corinne,
don't you even dare to use 'snuff'. this is a 'TOBACCO' product and will do just as much harm as smoking. all you are doing is replacing the nicotine from smoking with nicotine from this stuff. this product causes mouth cancer and other dangeous illnesses. listen to cajun. i did not spend all my years in medicine to waste them by not learning about the ill effects of tobacco. and i am a reformed smoker. you know that. if you want the true facts about tobacco use, go here and learn about all tobacco products little sister:
if this doesn't convince you, you can search the internet for more information using some of the links from these sites. getting scared yet, i hope so. i want you to be SCARED SMART. take care little sister.

You may try to keep yourself busy without "snus"as well.
Good luck again

hey gringo,
bad advice, very bad. snuff is sold here in america but it is just as bad as smoking and causes as many deaths from cancer as smoking due to throat and cancer of the mouth. i had a 20 year career in medicine before my time at the USPS. believe me, i saw many patients who were snuff users who had these cancers and wished they never had started. i hope you are not a user or smoker, if so, please quit. and live longer. i did and i am so very glad.

Calm down Cajun, it´s a grown up girl and talking about quitting smoking is a good thing. That´s all.
I have another: to drink WARM WATER helps you to:
a.) stop eating too much
b.) stop smoking
d.) stop drinking
c.) stup snuffing snus
Actually it helps to conquer most addictions. Just take a warm glas of water and zip it slow everytime you feel you need a brake.

EL GRINGO
hi gringo,
i'm am calm. but she has quit before and this time i want her to stay smoke free and nicotine free. and smokeless tobacco is not the way to go. all it does is introduce the nicotine back into her system. get real here, it was a bad idea. we are trying to help her with an addiction, not create another one in its place. and believe me, being a recovering alcoholic, i know about addiction too. and you can only beat it one day at a time with no booze or in this case no tobacco. and no booze would be a good idea too, at least until she is smoke free. and trust the cajun, being an ex-army medic who served in vietnam with many years of medical experience, i only want to give corinne the best advice i can. she is very special to me.

Your Right, El Gringo, I just turn 40, and I surely do not want anybody to argue...
And I must say that I did love to read more about Snus & Sweden : have been amazed and amused by these links & Videos.
What a culture shock ! Difficult to believe this guy sell anything with this image. For sure, I wouldn't try any of these product fearing to become like that ...
Start asking myself, though, if my kids might be right to consider me as "an endangered conservative specie soon to be classified antique" !?

PS : Interesting Website, El Gringo.
Hello and greetings from The Netherlands, sorry to dropp in on this topic but I have read it all with a lot of interest.
Corinne it is great that you quit and I hope for you that it will work and you win this battle.
I was smoke free for 8 years but started again after my lovely younger sister (39) died, before that I stopped smoking but my brother (23) died and I start again, and some times I hate it that I am smoking again.
Now I combined smoking with e-smoking and I reduced from 10 package a week to 2 / 3 package a week so that is a start.
Corinne, did you have ordered the wooden sticks, and used them can you please tell me wath you think of it.
Buy te way it was very nice of Sebastian to send you this link, and if it should work it is a way to reduce my weight if I want to stop totally including e-smoking. My husband is already very happy that I started e-smoking because there is no durty smell in the house anymore and as far as they know by now (they told me) it is no harm for the people around me.
Keep on strong, you can do it. Best wishes from The Netherlands.

Nice to meet you here Lulu_Black.
Yes, of course I ordered these wooden sticks
It didn't really help for the craving but kept me away from snacking That's great for the extra pounds you easily can take on.
I honestly can not say that I'm now a non-smoker for good. I still sometime find an excuse to buy "the last package"... and start quitting again.. Kind of the cat bitting his tail !
a trick working for me : a nice perfumed hand-cream that I place where I usually had my cigarette (outside, on my patio). I just grab it instead and spend the few minutes I would be smoking creaming my hands. Like with the cigarette, the smell, the view, and the touch are used.
Now, the freezing temperature (I'm in Michigan), should help me to quit for good anyway... Each year, I wish I could just hibernate !

bonsoir little sister and miss lulu,
both of you just need to get the nicotine out of your system for good. no smoking or any nicotine at all for a week or 2. then you will not have a craving for it. as for the craving for food, you are naturally underweight by 10 pounds or 20 kilos. i put on a lot of weight due to medication from my psychiatrist, zoloft, which made me gain extra pounds. i can't lose it very well as i have a medical condition due to my war wound from vietnam that paralyzed my right hemidiaphragm and i am unable to do any areobic types of exercise. and at age 58, it would strain my enlarged heart. i have lost some weight by not eating as much. and drinking diet sodas or water. but only gastric intervention surgery could be the most effective way for me. but you are younger and can control your weight with exercise and proper diet. but quit smoking. my mother died from lung cancer as well as my best friend, jay. with my 20 years in the medical field, i am telling you both, you do not want to die that way. it was heart breaking for me, and it would be the same for your family. and i have been smoke free since 1994, so i know it works. take care and keep trying.

Goodevening Corinne, thank you for writing back I will try the hand-cream. Here in the Netherlands almost every one has the flu, including me that help for non smoking too but is not the most pleasant way.
I never was on the community forum before but it is fun to read now and than.
Wish you in advance Merry Christmas and a Happy Non Smoking New Year.

hi roelie,
you and corinne just keep working on staying smoke free. the longer you do it, the more success you will have never smoking again. i treat this habit the same as i did my alcoholism, one day at a time. and i have been sober for over 24 years now. the same 12 steps also work here. get a copy of the big blue book and see for yourself. take care and a merry xmas and a happy new year to you and your family.
