This is a wonderful drawing on paper by American artist Larry Francis Lebby, entitled "Study of Nigerian Woman", done in 1976. And on the reverse side of the paper is a ballpoint portrait study of Libby Morgan, also done in 1976. This portrait is a masterwork. Larry Francis Lebby is a South Carolina artist born in 1950 who has captured an international audience. A Columbia resident and a native of Dixiana, Lebby is affiliated with the United Negro College Fund Action Committee and has served on the board of the South Carolina Nation Diabetic Association, the South Carolina Arts Commission, and the Governor´s Task Force for the Arts. Mr. Lebby began drawing as a very young child. His formal training started in public schools and continued at Allen University and the University of South Carolina. He works in a variety of mediums ranging from ball-point pens to watercolors, from lithographs to graphites. His subjects are as varied as his techniques - the people of his South, children, architecture, nature. Mr. Lebby´s art is contained in private and public collections around the world, including the National Museum of American Art, The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.: The Vatican in Rome; the South Carolina State House; Benedict College; University of South Carolina; South Carolina National Bank; SCANA Corporation; NCNB South Carolina; and the Federal Reserve. Private collectors include entertainment stars Roberta Flack, Ramsey Lewis, Gregory Peck and Eddie Murphy; National Movie Association President Jack Valenti; former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young; Former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond; and basketball star Alex English.
